Who are we
Dedicated GPs who put the patient first
We, Akkelien de Vries and Claudia Bijen, stand for accessible and humane care with you in charge of your own health. With our broad view of health, we are happy to help you on your way to optimal well-being.
In addition to regular GP care, we focus on lifestyle and health promotion from the perspective of Positive Health.
Our small-scale practice works with 2 general practitioners and without a doctor’s assistant. In this way you always have direct personal contact with a GP. In addition, you can view your file yourself, view results and schedule appointments at a time that suits you.
Our mission
Our GP practice stands for personal and accessible care with a holistic view. We pay attention to the body, mind and living environment of our patients. We stand for a sustainable, green practice with a healthy working environment.
Our vision
Holistic view
The patient always has direct contact with the GP without the intervention of the assistant. The GP is also the only contact and gets to know the patient well. Lifestyle medicine and Positive Health are an indispensable part of our care. With this we strengthen the mental and physical resilience of the patient and improve self-reliance. Together we work on long-term health and well-being for our patients.
Working together for well-being
In addition to our medical services, we play an active role in improving well-being in the village. We organize events, such as health education, walking groups and well-being projects. These contribute to a healthier living environment for the residents of Barchem and the surrounding area. Our practice is a starting point for health and well-being in the broadest sense of the word. We work closely with other healthcare professionals and organizations. Because together we can offer integrated care that goes beyond just treating diseases. Through prevention, promoting well-being and collaboration, we help people to stay healthy and vital.
Sustainability and innovation in healthcare
We believe that sustainability is not just about caring for the environment. But also about building a future-proof care model. That is why we think it is important to take sustainable, green measures and use resources responsibly. Through digitalisation and eHealth, we combine different technologies to offer our patients more accessibility and continuous care.
Healthy Working Environment
It is important to us to create a healthy working environment in which we work with pleasure and satisfaction. By using digital innovations, our workload is reduced. And there is more time for our patients. We practice what we preach!

My name is Claudia Bijen and I was born in Heeten. After studying medicine, I finished my PhD in gynaecology. Subsequently I followed the tropical medicine training (surgery, gynaecology and paediatrics). After completing the training I left for Sierra Leone with my husband to work as head of a hospital. After returning, it was clear to me that the general practitioner profession suited me best. In this profession I work with heart, head and hands and I can build a long-term relationship with a patient. I completed my GP training in Rotterdam and also gained my first work experiences as a GP. Our two children were also born during this period. After a few years I started to feel the itch to return to the east of the country. In 2020 we built a house in Eefde where I live happily with my family and animals. In recent years I have worked as a locum GP in Zutphen and the surrounding area for various practices. I noticed that I could not express my passion for the profession and way of working in ever-changing practices. Gradually the dream arose to start my own practice in a natural green environment, where the patient is viewed with a broad perspective. I am very happy that I met Akkelien on my path who shares this dream with me. In my spare time I like to do sports, gardening, meditate or go out with my family.

My name is Akkelien de Vries. I grew up in Twente and have been living in Deventer for a while now with my husband and two children. In my spare time I love to walk and run in nature, yoga and playing games with my children. In 2011 I graduated as a medical doctor in Utrecht and started my training in tropical medine. During this training I worked in surgery and gynaecology and later also briefly at the child health clinic. After completing the training we left for South Africa, where I worked with in rural hospitals for 3 years. Here I mainly provided emergency health care and performed caesarean sections. In addition, I did a lot of all round work. This means that no day was the same. Although we lived in South Africa with great pleasure, we decided to return to the Netherlands after the birth of our son. I started training to be a general practitioner in Nijmegen. After that I worked in various general practices. In addition to my work in the regular practice, I worked once week as a general practitioner at an institution for mentally disabled patients. This was an incredibly valuable time in which I learned a lot. Having my own practice in a green environment is something I have been dreaming of for a while now. Claudia and I met a few years ago and it turned out that we not only share the same sense of humor, but also the share the same dream. What a luck! In 2025, I expect to have completed the two-year Integrative Medicine & Lifestyle Medicine course. During this course, I am learning more about complementary medicine and how to look at my patients with a broader, holistic view. My passion is to empower people to take steps towards a healthier life.
